This year’s Hale Musical, sponsored by the Hale PSG, is Fiddler on the Roof Jr.

Premiering on Broadway in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof was the first musical to surpass the 3,000 performance mark. It won nine Tony Awards, including best musical, score, book, direction, and choreography.

Set in the Tsarist Russia of 1905, Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. tells the story of Tevya and his attempts to keep up family and religious traditions as the forces of the outside world close in. Tevya must cope with the strong-willed actions of his wife, Golde; his daughters and their often un-conventional choice of husbands; and with orders from the Tsar to evict their village of Anatevka. The musical's title is said to come from a painting by the Russian-born Marc Chagall depicting a fiddler, a symbol of survival through life’s rich mixture of joy, uncertainty, and imbalance.

Any student wishing to help with stage crew and make-up crew needs to pick up a packet of forms after January 15th from the school office, and turn them in no later than January 30th.
