Superintendent's letter from September 25, 2003...
Dear Parent/Guardian:
As the winter approaches, I would like to update you on our emergency school closing procedures. School delays or closings related to snow, ice, and other unexpected emergencies will be reported on local radio and television stations:

It will also be posted on the District nrsd.net website. Normally, an announcement is made from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on the day of the cancellation or delayed opening. Every effort will be made to include this announcement on all of the above television channels. Please understand that it is often difficult to make a connection with some of these stations due to extensive usage of their phone lines by other districts and organizations. Therefore, the announcement may appear later on some stations due to an inability to get through to the weather desk.
EARLY RELEASE
If it is necessary to release students early, when a very serious storm is predicted or unexpected emergencies occur, the announcement will be made as soon as possible on the above listed media sources. Please be sure to make an emergency plan with, and for, your child to have someone meet him/ her at the bus stop or at your home if you are unable to be there.
DELAYED OPENING
If weather conditions warrant it, the opening of school will be delayed by one to two hours due to inclement weather. Lunches will be served. On these days there will be NO morning kindergarten or pre-school. The extended day kindergarten will be open one OR two hours later and will take any enrolled-extended day morning kindergarten students who will not have school that day.
Children will be picked up at their bus stops one hour OR two hours later and will be dropped off at their schools one or two hours after the normal drop off time. Please do not drop your child off early on a delayed opening day as we do not have early arrival supervision. The earliest any child can be safely dropped off will be 15 minutes prior to the delayed start of the day.
Some weather conditions may still call for an entire no-school snow day but in order to meet school year requirements we will delay openings whenever it is appropriate. If it is ever necessary to change to a no school day after a delayed opening announcement, the decision will be made and announced no later than 6:15 a.m.
Opening times in the event of one and two-hour delays are shown below. Dismissals will be at the usual times.
Thank you and if you have any questions concerning this, please contact my office.

ONE FINAL NOTE...
The weather and road conditions are often quite different in several parts of the region. The decision to hold school is based upon the general conditions. Some isolated areas may experience much worse weather, and parents must use their own judgment before sending their child to school.
Sincerely,
Michael L. Wood
