Nurse Update

  • Reporting absences/tardiness: If your child will be absent or late please send an email to the nurse at halenurse@nrsd.net or call 978-897-5074 before 8 AM. If we do not receive a message that your child will be absent/late then we will call all numbers listed on the blue sheet until we are able to reach you and account for your child. Please remember to let us know; we want to ensure that all children at Hale are always safe!

Illness Dismissals: In the event your child becomes ill during class, your teacher will send him/her to the nurse. Based on a physical assessment and if the illness warrants a dismissal, then the parent/guardian will receive a call from the school nurse requesting that the child be picked up. Dismissals due to illness are handled only through the Nurse’s Office. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Temporary Physical Disability: The nurses must be made aware of injuries before a student returns to school. Parents should meet with us to form a plan of care to prepare for the student’s return to classes. This is especially important when planning for fire evacuation from the building should the student be utilizing crutches or a wheelchair. A physician’s note is required to be excused from physical education classes and to return to PE.

Flu Season Approaches:. The NRSD website will have up to date information regarding the Center for Disease Control’s recommendations surrounding influenza. When new information pertinent to Hale is received we will get it to parents immediately. In the meantime, remember to keep your family as healthy as possible by practicing proper hand washing, eating healthy foods and practicing a healthy lifestyle. If your student has cold symptoms, please send them with tissues and cough drops as well as a personal water bottle. If the student’s symptoms include a fever or appear to be flu-like in nature, please contact the Health Office prior to sending your child back to school. If your child has had a fever, they need to be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication to reduce fevers before returning to school. Proper hand washing is vital to preventing the spread of germs and promoting health.  Please go to Henrythehand.com website for more info and helpful tips.
