Recognizing the diverse needs and uniqueness of the early adolescent, Hale Middle School provides our students with authentic, creative learning opportunities that meet each student's physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs, allowing them to maximize their potential, and preparing them to be successful in future education. Through a climate of respect and inclusiveness, curricula that go beyond the traditional academic offerings, effective communication between all members of the school community, and the use of cutting edge educational techniques, we strive to educate the whole child. Our success will result in mature, independent, confident learners, who have the tools necessary for success in their further education as well as in their roles as productive members of their community.

Principal's Message

April 21, 2020

Hello Hale Families,

As you are aware, Governor Baker has required schools in Massachusetts closed through the remainder of the school year.  We recognize that we all received this new information today and the reality of its impact is profound.  As Governor Baker illustrated, the decision to keep schools closed for the safety of our students, staff, and community remains paramount.  It is nonetheless painful as we reflect on the impact of the finality of this decision for our students, staff, and administration and the many events and activities that we have all been looking forward to in the hope that we would return to school this year. However difficult, we are committed to keeping our school community connected, positive, and engaged.

Superintendent Clenchy and Assistant Superintendent Maguire met with our leadership team today to begin the discussion of the impact this decision will have on our schools.  We remain exceedingly proud of our teachers and the dedication they have shown in building our remote learning plan.  Similarly, we are incredibly proud of our students and their families for partnering with us to deliver on this plan. Our community is so committed, so strong, and we are ever so thankful for everyone’s continued collaboration and support.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will be providing additional guidance about the next evolution of remote learning to school districts later this week. As a school, we will continue to refine our remote learning plans as needed to support the varied needs of our students and families. As we move forward, we are further taking stock of and rethinking the many activities and processes that fall during May, June and beyond.

We are also aware that students and families may want to retrieve items from their lockers and classrooms and that there will be many questions about end of year events and celebrations. We are in the early stages of addressing all of the ins and outs that today’s decision has incurred, and I will keep you updated with information as readily as possible.

We remain grateful for your partnership and for your continued support.  We also remain confident that, through this partnership, we will persevere and return as a Hale community, stronger, better, and even more resilient than when all of this first began.

While our building may be closed, school remains open!

Yours in partnership,

Kyle Grady

Please take 5 minutes to watch the video HERE about remote learning with your HMS student(s) this weekend. The video and THIS document will help families and students understand how remote learning will look at HMS.

You can find a link to the NRSD Remote Learning Website HERE. This is where parents can view what their NRSD student(s) should be doing each week of this extended closure. I will link to the NRSD Remote Learning Website in all my future virtual announcements so it is ready available to you.
